Book Read: Why Work Sucks

I finished reading "Why Work Sucks and How to Fix It" by Cali Ressler and Jody Thompson. I love my job but have been struggling to maintain the motivation and focus that I had when I first began. I realized it's the time requirement that often drags me down. Even when work is done, I'm still required to clock at least 38.5 hours a week (how precise is that?!) in order to maintain benefits. I didn't think much more about it. It's how things work, it's a drag, and it's the sacrifice to provide for my family and become a responsible adult. I've got lots of years ahead of me so I better get used to it, right?

Maybe not. Cali and Jody started the Results Only Work Environment (ROWE) in the corporate offices of Best Buy. They noticed an issue in traditional work environments, including lots of misconceptions and did a great job answering many of these questions in their book. You can do "whatever you want, whenever you want, as long as the work gets done."

Well, there's more to it than that. But why not read it for yourself. Get the book for less than $10 including shipping on Amazon. Check out other reviews and read an excerpt. Look at Cali and Jodi's blog to see what topics they're discussing now. They'll also e-mail you the first chapter of the book.
